Thinking skills are essential for school success in today's high-stakes testing environment. In this workshop, you will explore the importance of smart thinking skills in a context of high-stakes testing. You will learn the core formula for Smart Thinking in depth and examine the implications of this work for teaching and testing. Research suggests that smart thinking requires that students develop smart habits to maximize the quality of learning and knowledge acquisition and to be able to apply that knowledge when it is needed in the classroom.  Dr. Markman will tease apart the three elements of this formula and explore the research that supports them. He will then present exercises that aim to maximize smart thinking and student learning outcomes. These tools for smart thinking aim to go beyond improving short-term performance in the classroom to help students become lifelong learners.
